Agartala, July 27: Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday said that the state government's ambitious project to construct replicas of all 51 Shakti Peethas at Banduar in Gomati district's Udaipur is set to emerge as a landmark destination for religious and spiritual tourism.

Located in the sacred land of Mata Tripurasundari, the project is being developed by the Tripura Tourism Department with the objective of showcasing the state's rich religious, cultural, and spiritual heritage.

According to the Tourism minister, Shankaracharya Swami Adhokshajananda Devtirthji Maharaj, the Peethadheeshwar of the Purvamnaya Govardhan Math in Puri, visited the under-construction site on Monday morning and reviewed the progress of the project.

Following the inspection, Chowdhury said, the spiritual leader expressed confidence that once completed, the project would attract a large number of devotees and spiritual seekers from across India and abroad.

He said the site has the potential to become a major centre for religious gatherings and one of the country's most prominent spiritual and tourism destinations.

According to the minister the site will not only serve as a unique pilgrimage destination for devotees but will also position Tripura prominently on the national and international map of spiritual tourism.

Chowdhury said the initiative reflects the state's commitment to preserving and promoting Tripura's spiritual legacy while creating new opportunities for tourism-driven economic growth.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants at least one world-class tourist destination in every state and the proposed '51 Shakti Peetha Park' in Tripura's Banduar is reportedly an initiative in this direction. The project cost has been estimated at Rs. 97.70 crore.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha had laid the foundation stone of this project on July 13, last year, in the presence of Tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury and Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy.
